On March 29Th, 2011 Ambulance 947-1 had broken down numerous times en route to a cardiac condition in Old Howard Beach, 947-1 was unable to continue to the call. A short time later a Hot Line call was received for a possible CVA. Broad Channel VFD had earlier learned that our ambulance was out of service, so they had contacted us via radio and notified that they were able for mutual aid. Due to BCVFD's quick response the patient was transported to the hospital where he is now in stable condition. On February 2nd, 2011 Ambulance 947 was rear ended by a speeding vehicle on the Belt Parkway, once again BCVFD responded to our aid, treating the driver of the car and our three members that were injured while on scene. BCVFD knowing that now we had no operable ambulance in service, once again came to our rescue lending us BCVFD AMB 303, while AMB 947-1 is receiving well needed mechanical repairs.
Our greatest amount of thanks and gratitude goes to The Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department, Chief Dan McIntyre, Ex-Chief Ed Wilmarth II and Captain Ed Wilmarth III.
