Our Department and Neighborhood - Old Days
Monday, August 15, 2011
Over the years Roger and his family have continuously supported the WHBFD. He recently has devoted his time to being a voice for the community in our continued battle to get Hamilton Beach's main road 104th street fixed. Rogers dedication towards the firehouse started back when he was a member as a junior firefighter, he now shows his dedication and devotion to our department through these great videos.

As we celebrate another great day in American history, please remember to think safety first.
Propane grills
- Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors.
- The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
- Keep children and pets away from the grill area.
- Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill.
- Never leave your grill unattended.
Charcoal grills- There are several ways to get the charcoal ready to
use. Charcoal chimney starters allow you to start the charcoal using
newspaper as a fuel.
- If you use a starter fluid, use only charcoal starter
fluid. Never add charcoal fluid or any other flammable liquids to the
fire.
- Keep charcoal fluid out of the reach of children and away from heat sources.
- There are also electric charcoal starters, which do not use fire. Be sure to use an extension cord for outdoor use.
- When you are finished grilling, let the coals completely cool before disposing in a metal container.
FIREWORKS! The safest thing about fireworks in NYC are that they are ILLEGAL. After many years of misuse of fireworks aimed at Police and Firefighters, throughout the 80's and 90's, enforcement has reached its peaked with an automatic arrest for the use of fireworks. Fireworks are extremely dangerous, even to the professional pyro-technician, let alone do they attract children into harms way. Also the embers and blast zone cannot be controlled within residential areas, causing multiple injuries and damages.
