Monday, May 30, 2011 God bless Our Troops and also the great residents of Howard Beach and Hamilton Beach for yet another great showing at our neighborhoods Annual Memorial Day Parade.
As Memorial Day is upon us, take a moment to thank a member of the Armed Forces, whether active or a veteran for all that they have fought for our wonderful country. Remember that Freedom is not free many of our neighbors have sacrificed themselves for what most of us take for granted. So may we all raise our flags this weekend in memory of those who have been lost enduring our freedom. Most importantly be responsible this weekend and always make sure to have a designated driver. It only takes a few seconds for a great weekend to turn tragic.

Wednesday, March 30, 2011 On March 29Th, 2011 Ambulance 947-1 had broken down numerous times en route to a cardiac condition in Old Howard Beach, 947-1 was unable to continue to the call. A short time later a Hot Line call was received for a possible CVA. Broad Channel VFD had earlier learned that our ambulance was out of service, so they had contacted us via radio and notified that they were able for mutual aid. Due to BCVFD's quick response the patient was transported to the hospital where he is now in stable condition. On February 2nd, 2011 Ambulance 947 was rear ended by a speeding vehicle on the Belt Parkway, once again BCVFD responded to our aid, treating the driver of the car and our three members that were injured while on scene. BCVFD knowing that now we had no operable ambulance in service, once again came to our rescue lending us BCVFD AMB 303, while AMB 947-1 is receiving well needed mechanical repairs. Our greatest amount of thanks and gratitude goes to The Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department, Chief Dan McIntyre, Ex-Chief Ed Wilmarth II and Captain Ed Wilmarth III. Now that we have sprung our clocks forward, there are other very important things that must be done. Make sure to check all Smoke alarms, Carbon Monoxide detectors, and extinguishers located within your house. Also take this time to do some spring cleaning, making sure to clean exhaust piping from the dryer, and dust that may be in the rear of stoves and refrigerators and in baseboard heaters. When starting any motorized gas/diesel fueled lawn/garden equipment make sure area is well ventilated such as opening garage doors. Take this time also to teach your aging children what to do in case of a fire and also an escape plan for your house. If you have any questions please contact us 718-843-1716.
